Just an update on my thread last week about bushhogging with the bucket on or off. I decided to leave it on and it worked out fine. Found a pallet buried in the weeds before I ran over it and was able to push it out of the way with the bucket.

Kept the bucket low while I was cutting but didn't hit anything so it was safe traveling.

Worked out great on the trailer. I dropped the bucket in front of me and drove ahead about two more feet which gave me enough room to fit the RC 1060 on the trailer.

Took the back adjusting bolt out and flipped the tailwheel up and it all fit great.

The JD 3520 handled the whole job without any loss of power even when it got thick an nasty.

I was very well pleased.

This will be a monthly job at this site along with the lawn care. Its nice when you have all the equipment to meet the customers requests.

Check out my pics.

My tractor and cutter are never that clean when brush mowing!!! Both are normally covered with dust pretty quickly.
BTW, does that tail wheel normally pivot up, or did you have to loosen some bolts? Just curious...

Those were some good ideas for reducing your footprint on the trailer. I will definitely remember them (we have a 3038e & the same rotary cutter).

Roy, he pulled the bolt on the rearmost height adjustment for the tail wheel bar to allow it to pivot back - a really neat trick to shorten it.

I still haven't bought a trailer, but this lets me know that an 18' would work fine for us.

i always leave my loader on when i bush hog. to me it is safer on the very steep hills i mow on. i use the bucket for a anti tip stabilizer. also for the reasons you mentioned, finding hidden objects. your setup is a lot like mine and i also mow for a few customers. i much rather have the loader on when on steep hills and yes i have also done it with it off, but don't like it. nice setup you have.

Great idea about taking the bucket off, I like the way your tailer is set up. The locks on the weedeaters make sense. they are too easy for someone to grab.

I was thinking the very same thing looking at that picture but you beat me to it.
Very nice set up and a good piece of work.

So LHS,

Nice rig! But I've got to know what attachment that is on the top FS 130 R. Some sort of wind rower, or bedder?

Ive been told leaving a loader on actually raises Center of Gravity and would make the rig more tippy not less. Don't know if accurate or not.

If you leave the loader on and drop the bucket, the tractor is noticably more tippy. Those buckets are heavy...try dropping it off the loader and pushing it around.
So, keeping the bucket on and low counterweights the rest of the frame.
