followup on 10\' howse 3pt mower
Welll.. I got a chance monday to really use my 10' howse 3pt mower for the first 'test' on the NH 7610S
I cut 10 ac with it. Including driving time to and from the pasture.. I did it in 2.5 hours.. as opposed to the 5 hour job it used to be with my Nh 1920 and 5' mower.
Here are some observations I made before /after the first cut.
Each tailwheel hub.. if dry.. seems to hold about a half tube of grease... the spindles also hold about a halftube..each.
The rear tailwheel rim bolts onto the flanged hub .. kinda weird looking.. the hub is cast and threaded.. and the wheel bolts in with 1/2 hardware.. the bolts protrude about 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch out the other side. Seems like there should be locking hardware on there... In fact.. after assembling the mower.. I did a few test cut passes in my yard, and then got it all ready to take down to the pasture to mow.. as I was pulling out of the driveway i looked back to see one wheel completely disasembled.. and the other loose.
After walking about 50' back I picked up the 4 bolts that fell out of the one wheel.. and the 1 that fell out of the other.
I put them back in, and then added a lockwasher and a nut to the exposed thread ont he other side.. also used a liberal does of red threadlocker. They should be bulletproof now.
Unit mowed decently.. though I miss the sharpened blades on my 5' KK... guess I need to get under there and block it up on jack stands and have at the blades with my angle grinder. i also notice that 3 blades leaves more of a pattern than one large blade/carrier as with the 5' Still cuts great... I just can't quite cut as low as I used to with the 5'.. which I could cut say... down to2" with the 10' I can only cut down to about 4" ( which is fine... no complaints there... ) I might even angle the 'cant' on the tail wheel assembly and raise the rear a bit to get another inch of cut.. which I would consider perfect under the circumstance.
On the toplink connection, it is slotted where the pin travels, instead of using a 'U' shaped piece like some of the other units do. I must say.. I was skeptical at first.. but now deffinately like that better than the 'U' piece.. which under some circumstances.. got angled down and stuck if you lifted the mower and had run up on some high ground or dirt mound with the front.. that got the 'U' piece wedged funny..
All in all.. looks great for an 'economy' brand mower ( yes.. it is in their HD line though.. )
