Saw a you tube video sometime back of a food dryer.. Was outhouse shaped with a hinged door when opened had levels of screens for a food dryer. Also had 2 old shower doors set like a triangle over a sheet of black painted tin. It was enclosed on 1 end and a hole in the back of the outhouse shaped dryer allowed hot air in the bottom of the dryer. the heated air from the glass panels over the black paint went thru the dryer from bottom to top and was ducted out via small range fan thru the eve of the dryer that was closeable.
The guy used it to dry all of his vegetables, fruits, and dry his seed for next years garden he said he could dry a loaded dryer full in a day or 2.
The most beautiful thing about the whole thing other than it was done for almost no money was the other end of the glass panel was removable when it was cold and it had a little drop off, and he could remove some of the screens and use the hooks in the top of the dryer. He would use the heat chamber to carry smoke from a fire in the drop off and cold smoke all of his meat...
I'm planning a bigger garden this year than in the past looking for ideas on ways to dry some of it out for the winter. If you have something post it up so we can see it. I've seen the ones In the seed books for top dollar would rather make it and save the money.
Thanks William.
