We started on our fall food plots yesterday.

This one had millet planted that just didn't make because of the drought here in Central Texas. The dove and turkey are going to be very upset.

The Kubota L260 is shaving and the new side mount 8N is disking.

After that we cultivated and picked up any roots and sticks that seem to pop up forever.

Then we bladed it smooth.

We'll use a seed spreader to throw the oats and maybe some peas.

After that we'll drag it and pray for rain!

Yep, looks great! We tried to start ours here in SC two weeks ago Saturday but it rained the day before and it was too wet. Last weekend we were able to get started on them, hope to finish up this Saturday.

We do a food plot every year. It's usually called a garden...

I wish we had your rock free soil, We ended up doing almost 9 acres of food plots here in Pa., broken up into 3 fields. There was a late frost this May that wiped out most of our apples and many plants that the animals rely on never rebloomed.

Combine that with a summer that up until the very end of August never had a week without rain. From the middle to end of May till the end of August we didn't have a 4 day period without some type of precipitation. Up until last week you could still buy corn off farmers, that is those who didn't give up on their crops, the only good part is there's many a field with standing corn due to farmers unable to get into their fields to spray. Plus it was unseasonably cold this winter(summer), it didn't hit the 90's till August.

With all the bad weather we had I ended up getting some incredible prices on seed and planted more than the usual 1-2 acres of plots. If fertilizer costs were still up I probably would have still planted less. We got almost all of our plots in by Labor Day, I only wish I could have planted the Brassicas earlier in the beginning of August as they are just starting to get some nice size.

I hope your going to mix in some Jerry Oats with your plantings, it's amazing when they're still young how many deer will skip corn to eat young oats.

Do you use a hand seeder or 3 point? We use the 3 point for almost all the seed, but for the brassicas and clover we do it by hand. That's where the helpers come in. I still have 20lbs of Millet that I didn't plant, due to the weather, I'll use it next year.

With all the plots we planted it's been difficult to still hold onto my doe tag, the bucks are coming in but mostly nocternal now with the rut starting in a week or two their show their heads soon enough.
