? for JD dealers

i was at the ARA show in orlando this week. talk 2 a person from yanmar. he said in 3 years yanmar will no longer make or provide JD with tractors or parts for there other tractor lines.

i wonder what JD will do? i know in the past people talked about other companies that made tractors that r rebranded people would be leary of,and they would say stay away from those brands.

that is the same thing that is happening to JD.

I suspect Deere may be doing what they did with the present 4000 series, and build their own engine, dropping the Yanmar (which I think is a great diesel engine). I was thinking they were going to do it for the 3x20 series too, and was a bit disappointed that it didn't happen - but thinking that it may happen before too long (and may fit the schedule you heard about).

i think it is funny that what is happening 2 JD is not that big a deal. if LG did that 2 montana every1 would say that is why u don't buy a rebranded tractor. i suspect jd will find another supplier in the far east 2 build there smaller tractors. which most likely will be a quality tractor.

what does this mean for the current JD/yanmar owners? I guess deeer will still work on them. Perhaps I'll trade in and have all Kubotas, at least they make their own engines.

Well, I can see it happening. Was at the Toronto Farm show this week and Yanmar seems to be trying to sneak in the back door for compact tractors. Looked at the Yanmar CBL40 which is a TLB but the backhoe can come off and there is a PTO for all your implements. Really a nice product that was fully equiped with add on lights. quick attach. Very impressive and considering they were coming in the back door of Compact Tractors by calling it construction equipment, it was not a bad price.
So, Yanmar is hitting the Compact tractor market but in an indirect way. If they get out of supplying Deere, then watch out because they will start bringing over all the Yanmar Compacts that they have been selling in Europe.

From my days in the manuacturing world I'm sure JD has an 'end of life' plan for products that will be discontinued or no longer made by Yanmar. This plan will take into account number of units sold, the parts, warehouse and dealer network, technical support, etc., It will all be based on the number of years they will actively support the product and there will be contractual obligations from Yanmar and other suppliers to provide parts & support during this time frame. All quality manufacturers do this.

Even though Kubota makes their own engines they could decide to provide support for 2 years for an 'end of life' product while Deere may decide to support the Yanmar products for 10 years - which is the better long term deal for the customer?

I wouldn't worry about either company - they're both solid and reputable. If I sold my tractor (or car, or truck, or trailer) & switched brands everytime a manufacturer changed suppliers I wouldn't have time to do anything else.

Price was around $38K ( I think ) in Cdn funds. Looked at a lot of stuff so kind of lost track of some pricing.
What is the 110 worth ??
Didn't realize you could drop the hoe off the 110 and have a PTO there ready to go.

You are confused, Linpat. It doesn't matter who does the actual building of a tractor for JD. It is still a JD tractor and will be supported as such. That is the difference between JD outsourcing of tractor construction and simple import rebranding.

JD decided that paying Yanmar to build some of their tractors and engines wasn't the bast way to control quality and to get the most profit. Building tractors in their own factories will provide more profit(or more competitive price) and control.

The question is, what will Yanmar do with the capacity now that JD is no longer asking them to build their designs for them. I expect they will import their own designs to US -- Yanmar has a good name here -- but it will take a while to find a home for all that capacity.

thanks for the clairification 2nstonge, I didnt realize it worked that way. I like the yanmar motor alot, seems to be a quality unit. The only reason I have started to purchase Kubota in more quantity than deere is primarily the arrogance of Deere concerning their products. I like both manufacturers but in my personal experience Kubota has deere beat in the customer recognition/appreciation department. I have never received one questionare from deere after purchasing a product, I've got 2 from Kubota for what ever thats worth /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
