Anyone have any experience with the Forax GP40 Forestry Mulcher? It is a flail type mower/mulcher that runs off of it's own gas powered 40hp motor. It mounts to the front loader with options for quick attach, front loader bucket clamps, and some other specific mounts. I was wondering how they hold up over time and hard use and if it is worth the money. The videos are pretty impressive. Forax GP40 Gas Powered Mulcher Tractor Attachment - YouTube

Thanks!

What size trees are you going after? My impression, from watching the video.. WAY too slow for "real work".

If you have a tractor that can handle it, look at the Brushcutt from Baumalight. I have one, here's some video of mine. It'll take down around a 4" tree (if you take it slow). It's not a mulcher, but, honestly, it does close to the job a mulcher does, especially if you have a hydro top link and can angle it. For the trees shown in that video (of the gas powered mulcher) I would have been through that in less than 1/2 the time with the Baumalight. The only downside, kink in your neck from looking backwards all the time! It costs around 5-6K, so it's much less expensive than any "real" mulcher (using carbide teeth on a drum). The downside is that it can't take down really big stuff, doesn't mulch as well, and can't go below ground level.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will ask in the land clearing section.

$6500 (USD) + tax and freight. In my case I will also have to purchase some kind of front loader attachment adapter.

Thank you for sharing the video. Awesome piece of equipment. Amazing what that is cutting down.

A heavy duty rotary cutter looks like a less costly, quicker, safer, and more convenient solution, except for the being mounted out back on a three point hitch.

Hi MechanicalGuy. Yeah, that is my approach right now. I am trying to use what I have to cut down what I can. I have a Bush Hog 406 and I plan on just cutting bigger trees down with a chainsaw and ripping the roots out with chains. I was thinking this might be good to mulch up the smaller shrub stuff and stumps to the ground. But the price tag is stopping me right now anyways.
