Ford 101 Plow

Here are pictures of a 14" 3 bottom Ford 101 plow I am getting ready to sell. Everything works well. The wear parts are all in good shape. It has the trip type plows that are spring loaded and will come out of the ground if you hit a root, large rock, stump etc. No shear pins in these old plows. Most people I've talked to seem to think the 101 is the best or at the top of a list of the good old plows that were manufactured back in the day. I'm just looking for advice on what to ask for the plow.

I recall seeing a thread recently that indicated these plows are getting pretty hard to come by. I'm wondering what farmswithjunk thinks, although I did read a thread recently that said he isn't posting anymore. If true, that is surely a loss of a great deal of high quality knowledge.

Anyway, I would welcome any input.

I'd venture to guess $300-500, if you are lucky. No coulters will drop the value.
Probably a 1-bottom or 2-bottom would be similar in value. As bottoms are added, the tractors to pull them are not the ones in demand, as hp and ag tires become necessary. Looks like the third bottom can easily be removed.
Just my take.

I have one just like it except with shear pins. That looks like a really nice plow. If you are in no hurry to sell it, I would ask at least $500, maybe even $600. Even at that, it is a bargain. I rarely see one in that good condition. I paid $400 for mine and it was really rusted up and needed all new wear parts, so I spent four hundred more on bolts, shins, shares, landsides, moldboards, etc. Not to mention hours of work and several busted knuckles trying to take it apart to restore it.

As HCJ, I paid $400 for a plow in not nearly as good shape as the one in your pictures. Parts will likely total $200 so the net investment will be $600 or so. That would be a good starting price for you to see if a bite will come along.

Yup, take the third bottom off and advertise it as a 2 bottom with free spare parts. Wish I lived a little closer to the Volunteer state - I'd love a well maintained 2 bottom 101 for my place.

The moldboards are between $150 - $200. However, the replaceable Ford 101 major wear parts, shares and shins, are about $30 total to replace per moldboard.

That's about the condition of the one I bought last year. I bought it from a dealer. It was 3 bottom but was missing 1 coulter. They were asking $400 I think, but had it for awhile, and I bought it for $300. I've seen them with all the coulters and good wear parts for as much as $600. The spring trip model is better than the shear pin model. I would try for $450 or $500 as a starting point.
