Ford 1100

My Ford 1100 has a problem that I have been unable to solve. It starts and runs only a couple of seconds with a lot of black smoke and dies. It repeats this every time I try to start it. The problem began when it ran out of fuel and someone put in some dirty fuel. I have flushed out all the fuel system (tank, lines, filter, injector pump, and injectors). Any suggestion would be appreciated. RobertAMerrell

Not your best bet but nobody answered so I will think out loud.

Dirty fuel, if material in nature should be caught in the filter, including water.

So, looking down stream, black smoke is running rich. What could get past the filter that would remain in the engine after you did what you did and cause rich running for a short time and shut down the engine?

Something of suitable size to clog something. What's the most vulnerable? Injectors.

What part? Spray pattern is not misting properly. Caused by? A piece of crud. In both? Don't know, so let's find out.

Crack your fuel line at one of your injectors and see what happens then retighten and do the other.

black smoke is LOTS of fuel.

try it with the air cleaner removed as a test.

if still no better, then check the next 2 things.

1, make sure if there is a leak off line tha tit is not plugged.

2, failing all that, i'd repalce the filter and fiill it full of a good cleaner like howes, and then drain the tank mostly and then put more cleaner int he tank.. make it a tripple or quad treat for this test.

:welcome: to the forum. Perform the tests as described by Soundguy and get back to us. I'm inclined to believe you've fouled an injector as Texasmark suggested. You can have them cleaned or do it yourself, but on a machine this old you may need new nozzles anyway. Try the easy stuff first. Also, where is Los Fresnos?
