This is a two part question. The first is; How much does an inoperative PTO , rear and mid-mount, diminish the value of a tractor that runs well, the Ford BH works well and the FEL works well? It seems that the backhoe has not been off in years,. The person I bought it from said he had never tried the PTO and had bought it for the backhoe and loader. The tractor looks a little rough and a number of the bells and whistles don't work, (lights, parking brake and the lift arm control lever is broken off). The HST seems strong and there are no leaks anywhere. The engine doesn't smoke except on start up. The PTO runs but makes a noise, kind of a rumble. Don't know how much power it has. The FEL lifts 500# easily and the frame backhoe has lots of power.

The second part is a little more vague if that's possible. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being basic repair(changing a tire) general maintenance etc. and 10 being the worst (blown engine, HST that quits, cracked case etc), where does PTO work fit in. I've got a manual that appears that it might not be too bad but haven't spent much time looking in to it.

This is a 20 year old tractor and for the most part seems pretty straight forward with the right tools. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

do you still have loader and bucket for tractor???
first the tractor works a mower deck using front pto
back pto works alot of implements
how many hours on tractor???

I don't know much about the 1210, but a friend and I split his big 2120, did a clutch, and put new brakes in the rear half. What I can tell you is this... ... The New Hollands (fords) are pretty straight forward, and if memory serves, just about everything was a 12 or 17 millimeter wrench. No special tools were required, and we had that thing in a million pieces.

I think the best advice I can give is as you remove parts, lay them out, label them, take pictures. Thats what we did. The job you're looking at is more Time consuming than anything else. Most of the time will be spent removing parts to get to what needs fixing.
