Ford 1210 won't start

New to the world of tractors. I own a ford 1210 tractor, probably late 80's - early 90's vintage. Ran fine the last two year but it won't start now. When I turn the key to the ON position the instrument panel lights up and when I turn it to START the lights go out and nothing happens, no sound or anything. I checked the battery and it is charged. Next step, I think is to look for any faults in the wiring, any ideas would be appreciated.

Are there any fuses to check, also make sure the ignition switch works..

I did look at the fuses, they're good. I will look at the ignition switch, thank you.

First thing...... always!
Disconnect ground cable at the battery, and on the engine block.
Clean both ends thoroughly, stiff wire brush/sandpaper.
Reinstall.
Try start again.

Check the safty switches. I have a mid 90s 1715 and the connection going to the PTO switch (left side of tractor under the seat) gets corroded and won't make contact until I unplug it and spray some WD40 on the contection.

Does it start if you jump across the starter solenoid with a screwdriver?
