Can someone tell me what type and how much lubricant I need for the Manual Steering Box on my Ford 1310 tractor? Local dealer is closed today or I'd just call them. My manual does not have the info on the page that the description says it is on and I've not been able to find it anywhere in the book.

I'm not familiar with that machine.. but if it is a manual box, with no power steering, and is it's own sump.. you should be fine with a quart of 85/140 int he pointy nose bottle.. 80w90 be fine to.. as well as 75w90.. etc..

heck.. you could probably put utf in there and be fine as far as the gears are concerned.. though the sector seals might weep if they are wore..

That is kinda what I thought. Bushings and seal were the only things bad. I had new bushings made and was able to buy a new seal for it. It is just a simple gear box so I'll probably go with the 80-90 I have here. Thanks

My shaft out of the sterering gear box has lots of play in it. Is that what you fixed? If so, how much trouble was it?

the sector shaft coming out the side of the box .. if it has slop could be sector backlash.. but that is usually caused by a worn bushing ( some don't have replaceable bushings :( )
