Ford 1500 fwd stuck in first gear

I'm new to tractors and to this forum so I'm very glad I found it. Our Ford 1500 is stuck in 1st gear on the right gear shift. The left gear moves correctly. I have been told that this is something the Ford 1000 series will do occasionally and that it has to do with something called the neutral bar slipping. Can anyone help. Unfortunately, the gear locked with the front of the tractor up against a fence so as I can't go into reverse it will take some doing to move it.

Howdy and welcome to TBN blue.

I had the same issue with my shifter on my F-1700. There is a ball and spring right next to the shifter handle below the cover. You need to loosen the bolt on top that hold the spring and a ball. it is a detent mechanism that holds the shifter where it need to be. take a look at the link below . That might help you.

That solved the problem. Popped the cover, loosened the slides and only had to fish for one spring before replacing the cover and getting on with the project.
