Ford 1520 4WD brake growl

Hello,

When using independant Left or Right brakes there is growling sound when
depressing pedel. If I press pedal hard enough to lock the wheel completly the growling stops. The sound is moderatly loud and comes from the rear of the tractor area.
This is the second tractor I have used but the NH 1920 I used before did not seem to make this sound when using independant brakes for turning.
And I have used the independant brakes on this 1520 only a few times.
My 1520 4wd has 430 hrs but I bought it second hand. Judging from the
orange colored liguid gasket material aroung the diff and brake housings it appears this tractor may have been worked on. All the other housings and asemblys ie: clutch and engine housings appear to be untouched where they join.

Johnny, is your 1520 an HST model? If so, your brakes probably get used very little. Even with a gear model, low transmission gearing can keep brake use to a minimum. When my tractor was brand new, the brakes groaned a lot until they got broke in from use. I rarely hear them groan now. To me, your description sounds like evidence that your brakes are in almost "as-new" condition. I'd suggest that with repeated use, the groaning will go away.

On my 2120 the brakes groan under heavy load. I always figured it was the pads vibrating a little against the steel regardless of the oil bath. They hold just fine. I have an older BMW 535 that has the same groaning. It's not a metallic noise, right?

Ford 1987 1520 gear drive with 500 hours which has had a brake growling noise at medium to high speed ever since I bought it used at 400 or so hours. But now the brakes are locking up severely at low speeds when applied, and also once I stop with brakes and change direction the tractor exhibits binding and vibration.
My local dealer recommended I add a $69.00 gallon of additive as a first step.
It was late when I talked to him and did not ask what that additive was. I know he mentioned that this would help with the lack of whale oil in todayç—´ hyd fluid. I did change the hyd fluid at 450 hrs. with NH brand and it was whatever the dealer recommended which I believe it was type 134?
And I may be just imagining but I believe the differential action is not up to par at low speed sharp turning i.e.: binding and tire digging in more.
I will jack the tractor up tonight and rotate the wheels to listen for noise.
Tractor always stored in garage but is only ran once a month approximately
I am very interested in any input you guys have. Of course I realize all these things I mentioned are impossible to diagnose without experiencing them first hand or actually dismantling the axles.
