I've just inherited a 1980 Ford 1700 4WD and I have a couple of issues that I'm hoping someone can help me with. This one is about the diff lock.
I just noticed that the lever for engaging the diff lock is stuck down. I think I've ascertained that the diff lock itself is not engaged, because when I apply one brake and then the other, the wheels are able to rotate independently of each other. Does this situation suggest that the diff lock is simply broken, or is there something else I should try? If it is broken, would I be looking at a whole new differential, or is there an easier way to fix it? I would probably take it to a mechanic, since my own mechanical skills don't extend to rebuilding differentials,
Thanks,
Don
