I have searched and read and read and read, and cant get this figured out. I have an older Ford 1700 that I'm buliding a grapple for the 3PH. I have the grapple cylinder plumbed into a CC single spool control valve (tried OC, but 3PH and FEL wouldnt work) that is connected via QD on Ts on the FELs going into the relief valve/tranny block. I've attached a pic of the original QDs on the T's on the FEL lines, they were there when I bought the tractor 16 yrs ago.

Problem is, seems the return is not working on the grapple cylinder. I get pressure to it ok, but the return doesnt seem to work as it wont close. If I disconnect the FEL from the system, the grapple works ok, but the 3PH wont go up unless pressure is applied to the grapple cylinder. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I know I can get the grapple to work if I hook it up to the FEL curl control, but I'm trying to get away from running hoses everywhere, and would like to have the FEL working when I needed it. I believe I need a "real" remote, not sure how, or even if I can get one for this model.

Thanks for the help/suggestions,
Greg

Get rid of the tee's. You need an open center valve in series with the loader valve and hitch valve. Should really be a power beyond capable valve fed off the PB port on the loader valve and having its PB port feed the hitch. Find a source of info on open center hyd circuits and read up, or perhaps the 1700 repair manual may help.

I've got the IT shop manual, but it's not very helpful in this department. I've tried googling for hydraulic info, but havent come up with anything decent, got any recommendations? If I understand correctly, put an OC valve in series with the output line before it goes to the FEL? The 3ph is powered inside the tranny case, no idea how.

Thanks

You need an open center valve with a power beyond port. It can go either in front of or after the loader valve.

If you connect in front of the loader valve then disconnect the loader's inlet hose and reconnect it to your new valve's inlet. Take your new valve's power beyond port and connect it to the inlet of the loader valve. The outlet tank return port of your new valve may be tee'ed into the tank return from the loader valve. This is the only line that can be tee'ed into.

If you connect after the loader valve then disconnect the hose from your loader's power beyond port. Run a new hose from the loader valve's power beyond port to your new valve's inlet port. Connect the previously disconnected power beyond hose to your new valve's power beyond port. Connect the outlet tank return as described above.

Everything should now work correctly.
