Thanks JC. I appreciate the input. The picture looks the same as mine. I usually run the engine at a fixed speed with the throttle lever and I keep my eye on the temp gauge to monitor the cooling. As the screen in front of the rad. gets restricted the temp starts going up. I stop and raise the bucket, remove the bucket brace in front of the hood so I can raise the hood to remove the screen to clean. I like your ? idea of using a leaf blower but I would have to carry it around on the tractor. When I do field mowing it is 2500 rpm and go, go, go. I know that the big boys with newer equipment have automatic reversing fans to clean the radiators. I wish some one would respond that has converted their 1700 or similar tractor. Maybe I'll go by the ford dealer and ask around. Probably get laughed at, but oh well. Thanks again for responding. Chet

Chet,

if Radiator front screen is good then it will arrest good chunk of derbies before some get bypassed. I guess than less than 10% gets on the radiator. Why don't you carry a wire brush in your tool box to clean the front screen?

JC, if he is mowing with the loader on and if his loader is like mine you cannot raise the hood high enough to easily get to the screen. I like to brush hog with the loader on so that I can throw stuff in the bucket that I find before or after running over it.

Hooked

Mine has the ford loader on it. The cross brace in front of the grill is hinged on the right side with a clamp bolt on the drivers side. I raise the bucket and release that cross brace and open the hood. Kind of a hassle just to clean the rad screen. Maybe I should carry my leaf blower in the bucket. Thanks for the input. Chet
