Hey all, A neighbor of mine has an oil pressure problem with his 800 hour 1710, Low pressure when it warms up. This tractor is in pristine condition, Any known issues out there on these? I did a search and found nothing involving oil pressure.

Perhaps the oil pump is the issue. One of the lines could be clogged with debris over the years, and just needs a cleaning.

Got 3020 hours on my 1710. Filter has a blown element and is not allowing back pressure to develop?
Easy to test with a new filter.

Thank's for the reply's, It would seem with such low hours it might be something simple.

I have a Ford 1900 and it too had a flashing oil light once it warmed up. I was blaming the pump etc and I too had a low hour machine so that didn't make much sense. I went to the Advance auto parts and bought a pressure gauge and then some fittings at home depot or wherever and plumbed it in. I found good oil pressure and suddenly the light (I remounted the switch too) quit coming on. I think all it needed was a good cleaning of the 35 year old oil line as it had built up debris in it over time. It's been working fine since and I "temporarily" (5 years ago) mounted the oil pressure gauge with duct tape on the hood by the fuel door. Easier to see the oil pressure there as I watch it now too along with temp as I have a real gauge there too with numbers on it.

I just bought a 1988 3910 with 900 hrs. First check was the oil and it was the usual diesel black. When I got it home first thing I did was to change oil and filter. While there I reached up in the drain hole and scraped the bottom of the pan and it had probably ⅜" of sludge sitting there.

I fired it up and ran it for about an hour and the oil was already getting dirty. Will finish the season in a couple of months and change the oil and filter again.

You might get some Sea Foam and add it to the oil and fuel per the directions on the can to help and loosen the sludge. More than likely the sensor is clogged. You didn't say gas or diesel. Oil could be thinning out also if not the correct oil for the engine. If diesel C (compression engines) need to be in the star burst or listed on the rear of the container and the common multiviscosity is WW HD 15w-40, Shell Rotella T, Delvac or Delo 15w-40. Gassers get by on 10-30 but I wouldn't put it in mine. The C oil is also S (spark engines) rated....at the end of the C listings. That's what I'd use anyway.

Really the advice given herein is pretty bullet proof. Get a gauge plumbed at the right spot and see for yourself.....For most engines, if of the high flow type pump, will show at least 10 at idle and go up from there as a function of rpm with PTO rpms being at least 30 psig.

Careful on this point because it may be changing in the near future. I've made a couple comments in other recent posts about this issue. I've been a Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic user for years, but I've noticed that the last gas engine rating for it was SM. All the current stock does not have an API S* rating. Now Rotella T6 comes in two types; the older traditional type that we're accustomed to, and a new 5W-30 Multi-Vehicle type that does have an API CK-4/SN rating. I know that Delo and Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel oils are carrying an SN rating also.

A quote from the Rotella T6 Multi-Vehicle sales brochure:

GENTLE ENOUGH FOR GASOLINE ENGINES,
WITHOUT SACRIFICING PROTECTION IN DIESELS.

In order for a diesel engine oil to meet API SN, Shell
ROTELLA T6 Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 is blended with lower
levels of phosphorous so it doesn't damage catalyst
systems in gasoline engines. Even still, Shell ROTELLA
T6 Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 Full Synthetic has demonstrated
excellent wear protection over millions of miles of testing
in heavy duty diesel engines.

Thanks for the heads up.

Next time I'm at the store I'll browse around and see just Rot T is selling these days. You are in a different category with the 30w vs 40 wt oil as you noticed. I think their comment about:

"Even still, Shell ROTELLA
T6 Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 Full Synthetic has demonstrated
excellent wear protection over millions of miles of testing
in heavy duty diesel engines."

Is misleading (to me) in that, when did they offer 30w C rated oil, Full Syn no less??????? Had they left the viscosity off the statement I'd believe it. Before the advent of T6 their dino oil was 15w-40, not 30. I used it in my Cummins Big Cam, 800 cu in, 400 hp, 80,000# GVWR International Rock Bucket. Bought it by the 55 gallon barrel as it took 11 gallons to a change oil.

Apparently this is relatively recent. The copyright date on their brochure is 2017. I have not seen it stocked in any of the local stores, but they all claim that they can get it. However, they seem to want $10 more for the new T6 Multi-Vehicle oil. I've decided to switch to Delo since Wally-World sells it for the same price as the T6 5W-40.

My first experience with multiviscosity diesel was with Exxon. I as time passed and my usage increased I became aware of the current 3 big refining suppliers but Rot-T was more readily available so I went with that. When they went with full syn, I used that for newer equipment, using WW or their dino multi grade for older. I'd bet there's not a dimes worth of difference between the major's products. Just who can come up with the best advertising gimmic to get your hand around their container.
