Ford 1715 w/Wood bucket
Hoping to find some of you guys familiar with hydraulics that can give me some advice on where to begin looking for a solution>>

I have developed a hydraulic problem with my Ford 1715. First the 3pt began to lose 'up' power and now will take 3-5 min before coming up. Goes down fast. The Wood 155 bucket was still working fine, that is until Friday when it just all of a sudden slowed way down. The time between the 3pt and bucket problem was about 6-7 months. The bucket lift and tilt up are very slow and the engine is straining when I activate the controls for a bucket tilt up or lift. From this I am assuming that the pump is OK. My first knee jerk is that I have a block of some sort in the pressure side. I tend to think the problem may be located in the hydraulic manifold block since that is the one common point for oil pressure to both the 3pt and bucket but I am completely ignorant as to what is inside the manifold block and hesitate to tear into it.

I have checked the manifold block setting for auxiliary hydraulics and it is set properly. I cycled this setting between the two settings and nothing changed. I have checked the oil level and replaced the filter.

Would be ever so grateful for any enlightenment.

Thanks for any ideas
Jim R

OK Mark.... Some time back, I had some work done on the tractor that required the removal of the loader. Tractor returned and all seemed to be good. Until about one week ago when loader came to an almost stop. It seemed to take forever for the bucket to be tilted UP and for the UP LIFT. About the same for DOWN, expect with the engine off, the bucket could be tilted down and the lift would drop pretty fast, especially if you had the bucket tilt down along with the bucket drop in 'float' position of the valve assy.

So I removed the valve and hoses to tear into the valve/spool assy. After removing the hoses from the manifold and beginning to remove hoses from the valve assy, I noticed the markings on the valve assy of "IN". "OUT" and "Power Beyond" [PBY]. I thought, after seeing the designations on the valve assy, that I removed the RETURN line from the valve assy PBY port but could not be 100% sure. I was inclined to put the valve back on the tractor but since it would involve a lot of work and if I was wrong I would just have to remove everything again. So, I tore into the valve assy and cleaned everything, inspection all the "O" rings and re-assembled it. In re-attaching the hoses to the manifold, I was careful to not mix up the RETURN with the PBY ports since both were identical. Cranked up the tractor and everything worked perfectly, including the 3pt lift [see orig complaint]. Conclusion is that when the mech's replaced the front loader they crossed the PBY with the RETURN ports. The confusing thing is-- why did the front loader seem to work OK for the several months with the PBY and RETURN ports crossed????? I have my theory on that one too. The loader valve did not care that the RETURN was being directed into the PBY because with now apparent requirement to produce work the back pressure was at a minimum. As far as the PBY being ported into the RETURN on the manifold also had no consequence. That is until a condition presented a back pressure on the PBY downstream from the loader valve restricting the free flow of the oil RETURN line.

That's my theory.... Any comments????
