Hey,
New owner of a 1982 Ford 1900 and I have two questions that I haven't been able to find answers to. I've found a lot of great information on here so I'm hoping someone can answer these:

1. What is the part number for the fan belt and is it available from anyone besides New Holland. The closest dealer is about 100 miles away and the belt is so old that no markings are visible and it is cracked completely through. I purchased the Operators Manual and Factory Service Manual but couldn't find the belt dimensions. Also, Google searches didn't yield anything useful

2. Does anyone know which other applications the front ring and pinion in the four wheel drive 1900s were used for? From what I know of Japanese manufacturing, it would be unusual to produce a new gear set for a low volume and short model life tractor. I know that with many Japanese cars, gears were typically sourced from other manufacturers and were usually found in different models and makes-- including tractors. I'm hoping that's the case with the front axle in the 1900 tractors because $1200 for a new ring and pinion from New Holland seems crazy.

Thanks for the help

Have you tried looking at the NH web site? They have the parts diagrams and part number available there by model number. You can also remove the belt and take it to an auto parts store, a tractor implement dealer, etc and they can match it and replace it. If you can find the part number, you can go on the web and find a source. Don't think you can only get these parts from a NH dealership.

I can't help you on the ring and pinion, except you can also get the part numbers on the NH website and that may allow you to search the web for a source of replacements.

Jerry,
Thanks for the reply. I checked the New Holland site and didn't see the fan belt in the cooling section or alternator section of their electronic parts catalog-- that's when I started going through the Operators Manual and Service Manual. I took the old belt to the closest auto parts store and they said the width was too wide for anything they had in stock. It's a two-owner tractor but I've found a bunch of odd fixes (incorrect radiator, incorrect throttle linkage, missing wiring, etc) so I'm not sure if what I have is even the "correct" belt. It is actually a little small and the alternator adjustment bracket had to be disconnected for me to remove the belt.

Being a Shibaura, I hadn't thought about trying to cross-reference the New Holland part number for the front ring and pinion. I'll try that tomorrow morning.

Thanks again

About 2 years ago I broke the front ring and pinion in my 1900. The only option is to get it from NH. At the time the price was right at $1000. through Partspring.com. I searched for an aftermarket set but the demand is so low they are not available. I did find a used set but they wanted $750. and I decided the extra $250 for a new set was worth it. Before you spend the money on the gear set make sure that is all you need. I could not believe the price on the parts for these front axles.

I use messicks.com a lot. They have good parts diagrams also.

Finally called New Holland and found the correct fan belt. For some reason it's only listed under the crankshaft section on the parts diagrams. I also found out that doesn't appear under a search for "belt" or "fan belt", only the exact term "v-belt" In case anyone else has the same problem:
the New Holland part is #86514598 This interchanges with a Gates 9440 which should be at any auto parts store.
The correct belt 0.50" wide x 44" long. The 1900 I just acquired was fitted with what looks like a belt from a lawn mower deck drive, This explains the incorrect width and huge amount of deterioration that it has.

I'm still searching for another source for the ring and pinion. With 4WD being optional and based on knowledge from my time spent in industrial design, I'm thinking it wasn't custom manufactured for the 1700 and 1900 series tractors. Although Shibaura parts are probably just as expensive as the ones from New Holland.
