Hi folks - just joined the forum. As the title says, can anyone tell me what RPM the engine will be spinning if I'm turning the PTO at 540 RPM? I'm looking at getting a PTO driven generator and am curious how fast the tractor will be running. My understanding is the tractor was new in 1991.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,
and :welcome: to the forum.

Your tachometer should have a mark for the 540 PTO speed. Usually a little icon in the shape of a gear.
According to the TractorData page for your model, the engine is rated at 2500 RPM. I'm guessing that PTO speed will be close to that.

I saw the icon on the tach - does it light up when it gets to speed? Seems like 2500 is getting close to the redline. Also, are shop manuals for these posted on line?

There are variations for sure. My 3910 is 1800rpm at 540 rpm with 2200 governed speed.

My 1910 says 540@2500rpm.Its max rpm no load is 2800.Its a pretty noisey engine at 2500,sounds like it's coming unglued but mines held together fine over 4000 hrs..

Hello Jims1910 ..... WELCOME!

I do not believe that you could have a Ford 1910 that was "new in 1991"
According to TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors, the Ford 1910 was only built between 1983 - 1986
The first Ford 1920 tractor was built in 1987, and the 1920 model run ended in 2000.
If you do have a 1991 model, it would actually be a Ford 1920. If you have a Ford 1910 it could not have been manufactured in 1991.
I have just restored my 1988 Ford 1920.
There should be a serial number on the right side (or possibly left side) of the transmission case, and with that number, one can determine the date of manufacture.
That serial number will tell the 1910 v/s 1920 tale.
I have a listing of the serial numbers for the Ford 1920, but you should be able to find 1910 & 1920 serial numbers on TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors also.

Thanks for your comments. The tractor IS a 1920 - my bad for not paying closer attention to the big model number decal on both sides of it😀. I bought it from my employer about 6 years ago and they had the original bill of sale from 1991. I agree with Raw Dodge. Anything above 2000 rpm and the tractor gets real noisy. It's got 2200 hours on it and runs fine, though. Has a Ford 7106 loader and enclosed, heated cab.
