I have a Ford 2810 that has a line leaking where it attaches to the pump. It's the line that to the far right, in the center and is a flared fitting. It had a yellow substance on some of the threads and I though that might have been the remains of some kind of O-ring. I cleaned it up and tightened it down and it leaked badly. I took it back apart and put a 3/8" O-ring on the top side of the flair and tightened it down. It leaked less but still leaked quite a bit. Is it supposed to have an O-ring there or some other kind of sealant?

I read about some having cracked lines at the flair but I don't think mine is cracked but it's possible. If it is cracked will a flaring tool for copper line work for it if I cut it off? I read about a guy who put some cotton string around the top of his flare and it worked.

Any suggestions? Thanks
