So after 32 years of owning a 1942 Ford 2N and using it almost daily, I decided to do a valve job.
But how to recondition the seats???
"lapping" the valves is really half-assed after all these hours so that was out.
I decided to buy a valve cutting set from Neway.
HOWEVER, I quickly found out that flathead Ford pilots are unavailable.
Unbelievably, after almost an entire day of searching, I found a Sioux Flathead pilot on E-Bay for $49.95!!!
Thankfully, I waited until it arrived to order the seat cutters because the stem was .385"
Today, I sat down on a chair next to the 2N and took my time and cut the seats to perfection.
I used Prussian Blue to verify and it turned out perfect.
The seats are profiled like brand new, to specs.
If you need a flathead Ford pilot, I just happen to know a little secret.
Goodson Shop Supply has some hidden on a pallet of old stock but just haven't dug them out yet.
You might call them and ask them to dig further.
Also, Neway valve cutters are the BOMB. Love them!
