Hey guys, I found an older ford 3400 with loader. It has 2300hrs and was supposedly running fine yesterday but the guy said it seems to not be getting fuel now. I can probably pick it up for <5000$ but I'm wondering what would be the potential cost to get it going. I would guess injectors or fuel pump maybe? Any idea what this could possibly cost to fix? I'm not real excited about it with fuel issues but if I had an idea what the high end repair cost would be, I could possibly bring him an offer. Should I run??
Thanks

An educated guess is about all that can be offered without doing some checking and/or testing. It could be something as simple as a fuel pump, or as complex as a fuel injector pump. You can disconnect a line after the fuel pump and turn the engine over and see if it's squirting fuel, if he'll let you do that. If it's squirting fuel, that pretty much rules out the injector pump or the fuel pump. It could also be the starter dragging and not turning the engine fast enough to crank it. Could be any number of things without some checking.

Thanks for the quick relies guys, actually the tractor is probably the one in the other thread with fuel issues! Haha small world! It is a diesel btw.

would need to know what injection pump is on the tractor if it has a sims pump the lift pump could be going out if its a cav pump u could have internal problems with the head of the pump but i would pull the fuel line going to the injection pump and see if u are getting fuel that would narrow it down

but will fuel trouble and not knowing what is wrong i would run at the asking price because it could be a 1500 problem

also what transmission is in the tractor

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems that the fuel issue is sorted, he had just changed the filter and had a loose line. I'm still interested just don't know for sure. Growin up we had an old Ford 3600 on the farm and it was a real good little tractor. Not sure what to think about this though with 2600 hrs, probably hard construction hrs I would think. I've been considering buying a new tractor in a few months but this would be a whole lot cheaper and could probably get me by for a few years. It looks pretty decent from the pics, the top edge of the bucket may be bent slightly. Does anyone think its worth 5500$ ?
BTW, not sure which transmission it has. Any to avoid?
Thanks

2600 hours is not much on one of these little tractor is not alot and is everybit of 5500 if everything works like it is supposed to and you wont it the have the 8x2 transmission so it will have the double clutch if it has the 4x4, 6x4, or 4 speed it will have the single clutch it is worth but about 3500

Good deal thanks man. It is 2wd, but I'll find out about the tranny.

It has the 6x2 tranny. Tractordata shows it to have a decent low gear but i dont know anything else about it. The tractor looks solid from what i can tell in the pics. At this point I just need to decide if I want a used 2wd or bite the bullet and get the new JD5055e that I really want...

if it has a 6x2 it is really less desirable i wouldn't wont it for the asking price see if they will come down to 4000 thats tops of what its worth
