Hey Guys,
I have a 1986 Ford 340B (Independent PTO) that I need some help with. It only has 1500 original hours on it, bought it with 1200 hours not too long ago. Sat around mainly. A while back it started to get fussy about getting into gear (from a standstill), it got where it was a little slow, to having to idle down, to where I would have to pull the engine kill momentarily to drop the RPM, to the point where I would have to hold the clutch in and start it in whatever gear I wanted to use. Basically was just getting worse and worse. I figured something was up, I had adjusted the clutch to no avail. I figured maybe the pressure plate had an issue. Well I finally got the tractor split today, that was sure fun. Everything in that darn clutch assembly looks like a million bucks. From the throw out bearing to the pilot bearing it all looks positively great. While I might have missed something, I definitely don't want to put it back together and have the same problem!
So....now I wonder...what is my problem? The ONLY thing I can think of is maybe something between the PTO shaft/transmission input shaft that might be binding and not allowing the transmission input shaft to slow down. Does anyone know if this is possible, or a known problem? I am looking at a parts diagram and am not exactly sure which part might be the culprit.
Any help is much appreciated! Mowing season is creeping up on my quickly! Thanks!
