I've been thinking about going to look at a Ford 3550 industrial tractor with a front end loader, and 3 point hookup (no shuttle shift) 3 speed with hi, and low range, and no pto. I've seen some pictures of the tractor, and where the pto shaft normally comes out it has a plate blocking it off. Now for the $10,000 question, is it possible to put a pto shaft in it without having to a lot of major changes like changing the whole transmission case/internals. Could the transmission that's in it have a shaft for a pto already in it, but you just need to add the coupler, and output shaft along with the lever/shift fork mechanism to engage the coupler for the pto. Since it doesn't have a pto shaft now I know it has a single stage clutch, but I can just use a over run clutch just so I can run a shredder behind it. I'm not afraid of doing the mechanical work side of it, but rather afraid of the cost if I have to get more than the output shaft components, coupler, and shifting mechanism.
