Ford 4000 small tube from under distributor to above carb

I slid the battery tray out and this small metal tube must have gotten hit and broke off at the fitting. Thought maybe I could just pull the broken piece from inside and push the tube back in and it would compression fit. Couldn稚 get the part of tube that broke off inside the nut fitting out .

What exactly is that connection with a metal tube from above the carb to below the distributor ? Seems a vacuum of some kind ?

Any ideas how to get the part that broke off inside the tall nut out and can the metal tube just be reinserted and tightened if I can get the broken part out ?

Make sure it has a good tight connection.

Can't you unscrew the 90degree fitting? Hard to tell from the picture.

You’re gonna need a new ferrule in any event. You could try sticking a small pick into the tube piece from the thread side of the nut and wiggle it side to side. Or buy a nut at the same time you buy a ferrule.

Yes, the 90 unscrews and then the taller fitting unscrews out of it. But the broke off piece of the tub in the taller fitting wouldn’t come out.

High quality, old school. But wouldn't rubber vaccume line be easier to make a repair?

Depends on who is doing it. For me a 1/8” compression nut and ferrule for something around or under a buck is about as cheap and easy as it gets. But if one doesn’t know where to procure them it gets more complex.

Doesn't look like a compression nut. Looks like some sort of flare to me. Remove tall nut and tap tube through from end with hex. A photo of the end of the nut that is inside the elbow may show the flare.

Sorry, went out of town, attached is a better view of the long fitting that screws into the 90. I have not tried to knock the broken piece out yet, seems pretty wedged in there.
