Ford 4000 w. 8 speed, hi.lo pin broke

Was pulling a disc today and the hi/lo jumped out of gear, when I went to put it back it wouldnt go in, turned the tractor off and back on pulled rest of trans out of gear, and with a hard push it went into to low, the the shifter went limp.

I took it back to the house and pulled the shifter cover off and found the hi.lo pin broke at the neutral shift switch. After fiddling with it, I put it back to gether and can still get low but because hi requires a pull on that lever and not a push I can not get any high gears.

I have a manual and it shows the pin, but it doesn't show whats behind the pin inside the trans. My guess is when I pull it apart I am going to find that the part I broke is actually pushing up against something else and cotter or something similar holds in it place.

Anyone know for sure?

hut down rickb, whodat or ultradog.

both of them have a ton of 3 cyl machine experience ( where you see the 8spd start.. etc.. ) I'm more of a prior model guy.
