Ford 4000 wiring question

I ordered a Tiny Tach diesel tach and I am trying to figure out how to wire it.
ford 4000 3cyl diesel 71ish with one wire alternator.
I called Tiny tach about the hot wire, here is their response:
"Winston,

Like they do with your radio in your
truck, if you have the radio on when
you go to start the truck, it shuts the
radio off as it is cranking and then
turns the radio back on when you
turn the key back from crank position.

A switch will do.

Steve"

Do i have a wire on my tractor that turns off when cranking and back on when you turn the key back from crank position?
On "A switch will do" I think he is saying if i don't have that wire i can just wire in a switch to turn it on and off, but i'm afraid i would forget to turn the switch off on occasion and risk a voltage spike to the unit when I try to crank the tractor.

what kind of voltage SPIKE do you think occurs when you hit the battery with a 150a load? Hint.. it's not a spike.. but a rwduction in voltage. a SPIKE is an increase in voltage.

get a switch that is lit when on.. use that to power the tiny tach...

Thanks, "lit" solution had not occurred to me.
In my defense, tiny tach brought up the starting SPIKE potential. I saw the reduction in voltage you mention when testing wires/terminals yesterday with voltmeter. I got off my arse and dropped the key switch and found an unused terminal that qualifies. When tach arrives I'll either use that terminal or wire it with lighted switch per your idea.
Kinda curious that Tiny Tach standard shipping is "Your order should ship in 3-10 days, depending on stock status. ". That kinda shipping standard I would have expectected in 1971. Also interesting that the manufacturer had the lowest price I could find.

Buid-in position in your switch....going to start position all asseseries shuts down ......releasing key it return by irself to the on position
