Hi,

I have somekind of electrical problem with my Ford 4600, everything is dead when I turn the switch, but there is definitly voltage on the battery. Therofore I want to open the hood to see the wiring to the switch, but how complicated is it? Or can I reach the wires just by opening the display board?

Taking the hood off doesn't gain you a whole lot of access to the wiring. I'd start by pulling the instrument cluster and unscrewing the key switch. Do you have any dash lights when you turn on the key? Did they work before? Is there any power to the key switch?

If you have absolutely no power anywhere, you will need to identify the main power wire and trace it. There should be a fuse link (a fuse that is built into the wire). You have to cut it out to replace it. There is a square plug where the two halves of the harness come together. It should be near the front of the fuel tank somewhere. A good first step would be to check to make sure it is fully plugged in and not corroded inside. You MIGHT need to take the hood off to get to the plug.
