Ford 4610 Fuel Gauge Not Working

The fuel gauge does not work. The needle stays at or below the empty mark with the off. When you turn on the key the needle will move passed the empty mark. Took the instrument panel/gauges out and the wire from the sending unit to the fuel gauge was good. Checked all connections and had power at one end of the gauge. Also had a small amount of juice coming off the end that goes to the sending unit. Not much. Took the wire off the sending unit and touch one of the sending unit mounting bolts and the fuel gauge needle moves to the full mark. I am at a lost at what to do next.

The gauge on my 7610 S doesn't work either, Must be a common thing.

Replace the sending unit.

Remove the wire from the sender and ground it while the ignition switch is on. If you get full gauge deflection, then the problem is the sending unit.

Today I took a coat hanger and used it to move the float arm inside the fuel tank. The fuel gauge worked up and down when I moved the float arm. So it looks like the sending unit is bad. Or the float is bad. I will not know until I get the sending unit out. It looks like I can pull the sending unit out through the instrument panel opening. I don稚 know of any more tests to run.

sounds like the float on the sending unit is bad not the whole unit u might beable to get just the float i would try and take it off the sending unit and check to see if it will float or sink if floats the sending units the problem if sinks the floats the problem
