ford 4610, ford 2120, ts254 (Chinese)
Does the transmission use gear oil or is it utf that meets the ford 134 requirements?

Also the rear diff uses the 134 fluid correct?

Thanks again

The 2x8 tranny AND the rear axle/hydraulics spec call for 134 fluid

Thank you very much! I need to buy a service manual for it.

Tractor sat for several years in the barn. I am trying to change all the fluids and filters. I finally got the fuel tank cleaned out and it’s running really good now. But after putting about 5 hours run time on it I noticed that the transmission fluid is milky.

You live in a humid environment so condensation will cause water to collect in the gearbox and rear axle housings. Using the tractor regularly will generate heat in the fluid and the water will evaporate. However if it sat for a long period, change the fluids in both components and then put the tractor to use.

Look on ebay for factory service manuals. Don't waste your money on the IT manuals. They don't cover the systems very well. You can also buy the manuals brand new from New Holland but they'll cost you more. The way I look at it, if I can do a few repairs on my own then that will pay for the manuals since the shop rates around here are close to $100/hr.

Buy the OEM operator manual first. That gets you fluid types and capacities, basic operation overview, and periodic maintenance and adjustments. Much of this basic stuff isn’t covered in a service manual or if it is, is difficult to find. If you choose to get the far more detailed service manual, that is a separate decision.

My I and T FO-41 covers the 10 series which is my 3910 and probably your 4610. Having wet brakes and clutch pack Independent PTO are 2 of the current tractor amenities requiring Premium oil which puts you in the 134 C,D range which also shows up as JD J20C on the applications label. So I use Premium in my 3910 whereas the other Fords use regular UTF which is the 134 A,B spec.

On your tractor sitting, next time you change engine oil, with the oil out, run your finger into the oil drain plug and feel the floor of the oil pan. You may find a layer of sludge which keeps your freshly changed oil black. I dumped a 16 oz can of Sea Foam (any auto parts store) in my 3910 when I bought it, having only 900 hrs over it's 30 years, making for a lot of sitting around and a lot of contaminants settling out of used crankcase oil winding up on the floor of the oil pan. I ran it for about half an hour hard and while still hot drained the oil....felt the floor again and it was clean. Put in new oil and filter and oil stays clean now.

Next time I change the oil I’ll try that. I just changed it and have about 5 hours on new oil. Still looking good and clean so far. Tractor was my grandfathers he bought it new in 85. I got it from him. It had 1771 hours on it when I brought it home. I’ve put about 10 hours on it so far now and changed all the fluid except the rear axle/hydraulic fluid. I bought the c,d rated fluid for it.

I fixed a ton of chewed up wires and have the elecrical system almost 100% now. All it needs now is a fel. I wish I could find one...

Google "tractor salvage yards" and see if that helps. I know there are some big ones out there.
