Ford 555b
Hello,

I have a 1986 Ford 555B. Have owned it about a year or so with little trouble. I have done all the regular maintenance on it (fluids, filters, etc.). It's been a great machine so far. I am no diesel mechanic but mechanically inclined.

So here is my issue, I was using the tractor the other day and noticed this brass spring loaded device on the side of the block right next to the oil filter was leaking oil. I'm not sure what it is or what it's called or why it's leaking. If I had to take a guess I would say it's some sort of oil over pressure/fill relief. It's located just to the left of the oil filter and almost behind the power steering reservoir. It looks like it's threaded into the block, probably about a 3/4" thread if I had to guess.

It's not leaking profusely, probably a drip every 8-10 seconds. I stopped using the machine when I noticed it in fear it would pop and I would loose all my oil. Oil level is right where it should be on the dip stick. I have the parts manual for the tractor and I can see it on the diagram picture but there is no reference to it (no part# or anything). I also have the service/repair manual and can't find anything on it in there.

So can anyone point me in the right direction as to what it is? What I need to do to get it fixed? Part # etc.?

Thanks in advance!!!

Looks like an oil pressure sending unit. There should be a wire with a grooved socket that slides over top of that pin.

Exactly. The wire should come from the same part of the harness as the alternator wiring. Sender controls the oil pressure warning lamp on the dash. New sender is cheap and should be in stock at any New Holland dealership with old Fords in their territory.

Thanks for the help guys. I do see an old wire coming from the alternator area that looks like maybe it used to go to it. I will investigate that some more. Also now that I know it's an electrical component I was able to find it in the parts manual and have a new one ordered and on its way.

Thank you all for the help!
