I have a 96 555D ford backhoe
i have cleaned fuel system new filters cleaned tank sediment bowl
had decided i had injector problems but then i ran a hose form a fuel can on the hood to the line running to the injectors
and it ran fine and i was able to get it from the field to the house like that.
I have the thought ive got some air leaks in the filter housing unit..
and there is a round thing on the filter side,, looks like a regulator of sorts by the way there is a decent amount of fuel to this regulator but seems to drop pretty substantial from the inlet to the outlet(filter)
thoughts ? ideas?

I'm not familiar with the Ford 555, but it can't be all that different from other TLBs. Is there a transfer pump to get fuel up to the filter? What is your best guess what that round thing is? If it's a regulator, is there enough pressure to drive it?

I don稚 think it has a transfer pump. But I don稚 know much. Best guess a regulator. It looks just like one on a propane tank. Round disc shaped

Is the fuel tank above the filter? Otherwise I think it kind of has to have a transfer pump of some sort.... though maybe not if filter and tank are about the same level.

It most likely is a hand bleed pump, push and turn to lock, pumpto prime

Check the lines and fittings. If it has a banjo bolt at the seriment bowl pay particular attention to that. Crud can collect in the barrel and create a restriction.

Yeah, and that just reminded me that I always consider every single line & fitting between the fuel tank and the injector pump to be suspect until I've personally inspected it. I remember as a young mechanic I wrestled with one fuel feed problem for days until I figured out that some DPO had rolled up some brass screen into a tube and forced it down into a fuel line as a sort of home-made filter. Over years it had become plugged with crud that mostly affected full throttle operation. It ran OK up until about half throttle.

Yeah my suggestion was a "Ask me how I know" thing. I worked on my 575E for two weeks before I found the clogged banjo fitting on my sediment bowl. All the other stuff I did needed doing but none of it made the tractor continue to run. After I found that little bit of crud that was causing it I also added a small engine fuel filter to the hose in front of that fitting. Now when it starts shutting off I change that little $3 filter and I'm off and running again.

Check the fuel filter to make sure you don’t have the seals reversed. The larger goes on top. Putting the smaller on top can stop the flow of fuel through some filters depending on brand and construction.
