Ford Ford 7710, Ford 2110, JD 6400, NH8970. All 4x4's
I am looking at buying a Ford 5610, 4x4, loader, and 4500 hours. The tires are 30% front and rear, it needs a head gasket and a hyd. steering motor. The price is 10,500 down from 14,000. Is this a good deal or not?

still sounds a tad high for the repairs that its gonna need.but id get a price on everything you listed,an add it to their asking price.

That is what the dealer is telling me. But you never know it could be a whole lot more that a head gasket.

Depends on what's really wrong with it.

I feel the same as everyone else here. If it doesn't run and you can't test all the features, it's just a parts tractor worth a scrap price. You can bet the dealer would be saying that if you were trying to sell it to him. I think I'd rather have him fix everything on his nickel and then I'd pay maybe $14k if I was really happy with the result. Just consider this, you are not only risking $10k on a questionable tractor, but also whatever $$$ it takes to fix it. I don't see why you should risk anything. After all, your money's "engine" and "power steering" are working fine.;):D

Those two repairs will easily total $2k if it really needs a steering motor and all the engine needs is a head gasket. Tell him to fix both problems and then offer the $10K. It's not your fault he is in over his head.

Thanks for all the info, they said it is the valve cover gasket not the head gasket. The tractor does run good and the steering works as well, it is just leaking pretty good. With the tractor the way it is the price is $10,250.

I called the New Holland dealer, the rebuild kit for the steering motor is $101.50. Should I have them fix everything and then see what they will take or what?
