FORD 5610 Popping Out of Road Gear

Was wondering if anyone might know what would cause my buddies 5610 to come out of forth while in high range? Pretty sure he has the 8x2 crash box. Not sure if it does it in low. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking bent shift fork not allowing detent to engage or a detent ball/spring issue.
