Tractor
2003 New Holland 5610s
I found a 5410 with 2k hours on it and a loader for $14,800. It seems to match up nicely to the specs of the 5610s, but the PTO HP is about 4-5 HP lower. Hydraulic flow is higher (and it is a Deere which counts for something right?).

So, my questions are, will the 4HP at the PTO make a noticeable difference?

Would an equivalently priced 5610s with the same hours and in similar shape be a better deal?

And, is $14,800 (OBO) a good deal for this tractor @ 2k hours w/loader IF it's been well maintained? (from the pictures it looks to be well taken care of).

yes thats a real good price for that tractor if its not in bad shape.if you dont overload your 5610,then the JD should be able todo the same jobs.

It seems to be in pretty good shape, looks like a single owner.

I had a JD 5300 MFWD with FEL and 3000 hours. It was a good tractor. The 5410 is a little bigger and newer. I traded my 5300 in a couple of years ago and got $16,000 for it. Very reliable tractor but had to put in new clutch at 2500 hours. Not uncommon occurance because these tractors use a dry clutch and loader work is hard on dry clutch. My JD 5300 had fluid in the rear tires and you will probably need that or rear wheel weights. The loader capacity really needs rear weight. With loaded tires, I could almost lift the rear of the 5300 with the FEL. The difference in 4 pto hp is going to be insignificant for 99% of your tasks. If your split between the ford and JD, go with the JD. Much better resale. Ford is now defunct and rolled into New Holland/Case-IH.

what uses did you hav ein mind for either machine?

lots of hyd apps or more pto apps.. seems liek each has a small edge.

what trans does the deer have.. i'm guessing the 5610s has the 8spd correct?

With a loader on the front and a normal load in the tires it was the only tractor at a demo not to be able to move on a slight grade with out being in four wheel drive. Tire sizes were the same so the amount of ballast was equal. The load was also the same.
