AVCO was the parent company of New Idea back in the '70s, if I am not mistaken. I found some data in an old 1974 Implement & Tractor Red Book that AVCO New Idea marketed a model 452 rotary cutter. Maybe somebody can provide insight to any Woods / AVCO ties.

Henry Synck and Joseph Oppenhiem started New Idea. They built the first commercially successful manure spreader. Their heirs sold New Idea to Textron, who sold to Allied Corp (Where it became AVCO New Idea) who was also White-New Idea. They sold to AGCO, who currently owns the New Idea name. I don't believe Woods has any direct association with any of those brands.

I wasn't aware of any direct AVCO / Woods ties, either. Thanks for the history lesson on the New Idea brand name, FWJ. I knew the latter history of New Idea but not the earlier parts.

The manufacturer of this particular AVCO rotary cutter could be Woods, I guess, since I doubt that AVCO made the rotary cutter themselves. But analysis of the AVCO 452 specs of the mower in the I & T Red Book appear unique. The mower is no longer listed in the I & T Red Books after 1974. I guess that the anwer is; Who knows?
