I'd looked at some 655s and just recently came across 2 675s. Same size and years as the 655 (I think). I assume the 675 is a 655 with more HP (the owners don't seem to know).

There's also a 575 but I haven't run one yet.

Anyone know the difference between these 2 machines? Or where I might find specs? I couldn't find anything online eqivalent to the older_backhoe_specs that John Deere maintains on its website.

Those are probably 10 ton backhoes.

It could be that the 655 is N/A and the 675 is turbo, but that's just a wild guess.

655/ 675 are ~ 8-8.5 tons per Ford dealer. I guessed that the n75 would be a turbo but there are 655 Turbos so that didn't work either.

Is it a 655/675 Cab & 4x4? Cab & 4x4 adds a lot of weight.
No heavier than a 580 SuperM. I'm ~17,500 lbs.

Yes, all machines I've looked at recently are cab, 4x4, extendahoe.

Are you 17K? I didn't realizea 580 was that heavy.

A 480 should be equivalent to a JD 410. A 410C is 14,000 lbs + 4x4 + extendahoe + cab. So ~16,500 - 17,500 is more a JD 510 weight. A 510D is only ~18,000 loaded up. That's made to match the 590.

I think the dealer said ~ 16,500 on the 655. Maybe he was thinking of an OROPS and or 2WD, who knows?

I was thinking of hauling a 580SL (or this 655) home behind a friend's 1-ton. I was probably thinking 15,000 on the weight and I thought that was on the edge. If it's really 17,000 that's too much.

Much heavier than I thought and yes, you're spot on. Some other machine weights below fyi. (There's a 590M 4WD cab 4x4 advertised as 14,000 weight on ebay right now. Followup: I emailed him and he replied that 14,50 is what the machine weighs).

I must have been thinking of the base hoe (no cab, no weights, no 4x4, no ext-hoe) even though I had gotten the numbers for those and was adding 2500-3000 lbs for those (the JD 510D adds ~ 3200 lbs for them).

from various sources:

580 SM - 14285 (2WD "light"); 17545 "heavy config" (4x4, EROPS, ext-hoe
590 SM - 15268 light; 19578 heavy config (cab 454, weights 440/ 990, ext-hoe 270, 4WD 393

Ford/ NH 555 - 15,500 (cab. 4x4? Ext-hoe?)

JD 510D - 19072 = (16,000 + cab 500 + ext-hoe 1182 + 4WD 190 + counterweights 1200)
JD 410G "18,500-lb typical operating weight".
JD 710G "26,500-lb typical operating weight"
