Hello Everyone, I've searched and read the forum for years but this is my first post.
I recently purchased a FORD 7000 deck top row crop that needs some work. It appears in pretty fair shape, a few steering leaks, minor oil leak from head gasket and radiator oil cooler, leak from one rear axle seal etc. but the first fix is the starter. It has been changed to an alternator with wires of all types spliced in, even a piece of ROMEX. It has a new battery fully charged but the starter doesn't make a sound when I push the start button. I purchased a new keyed switch and would like to remove all the spliced wiring, push button, harness and rewire from the switch to the solenoid. Has anyone here made their own harness in this fashion or no where I may can find some information on "How To". Thanks, Barry

First thing to know is that the start circuit will have a number of safety switches in series with it to prevent the engine starting in unsafe configuration.
One would be to ensure it cannot start in gear. It may have switches to prevent starting with the pto engaged or the clutch pedal not depressed.
Post a few pictures and more advice may be possible.

True that. Unfortunately by the time that tractor was produced the "Safety Police" were in full force.......

It's your tractor now, so wire it to suit your needs. If it were mine, I'd probably try to utilize the neutral switch(two wires coming out of the shift cover) if it works, but beyond that, just a wire from the correct terminal of the key switch to the starter. At least a 14 gauge wire, preferably 12. Exactly how you go about is your business, just don't publicize your decision here or the Safety Sam types will be on you like stink on a skunk.

I agree. I don't do things according to the Safety Sam type rules either. But I do like a neutral safety switch. I often start my tractor while standing beside it.

Thanks everyone, I really had intended to bypass the neutral switch but think now that I may need to circuit through, I'm getting older a little forgetful. I intend to add a couple pictures of the starter and switch. The neutral wires into the switch also?
