Ford 851
I am having a problem with my Ford 851. It starts without a problem and will operate fine for a short time. I believe after an hour or so it will stall out and I have to keep the governor cranked down in order to coax it back to the garage, It will start up with no problem. It doesn't affect the outcome whether or not the PTO is engaged or not. It was suggested that I check the sentiment bowl (it looks clean) and the gas cap (which is not vented and I believe that it is supposed be non-vented) and it looks good.

Here's what's been previously repaired:
The gas tank and gas line are new
The points and spark plugs are new (and settings verified by a mechanic)
The wires are new

I'm checked the carburetor vent and and that looks good. I am wondering if there is a vent for the gas tank and where that is for this model?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Welcome. It has been about 50 years since I used one but some talked about vapor locking after some would get hot. Dad would say with a gas engine it is either a fuel or spark issue.

What happens if you just shut it off and try to restart at once and 5 minutes later. Are you say you have good working power that first hour more or less?

Sounds like you have a coil going bad. Next time it happens pull a plug wire and see what the spark looks like. You want a nice BLUE snappy spark, not a yellow weak one.
