Hey everyone,

Newbie here...I just bought a 1958 861 Powermaster. At low idle I hear a noise which sounds an awful lot like a coffee grinder! I believe the hydraulic pump which runs the 3-point and one remote is the culprit. If I raise the 3-point hitch, or open the remote, or increase the RPM's, the noise goes away. I am very new to tractors and was hoping someone could tell me with some level of comfort that the problem is the pump. If so, where would be a good place to buy one, or are there rebuild kits available? Also, will this be a costly repair?

Thanks in advance!!

If my wife askes about the pick-up truck full of guns pulling the new boat, tell her everything's yours. I'll be at Cabela's.

Hey Jimmy Mac..... I have a 961 and when I set the low idle to specs I would hear a rattle but mine is coming from the trans case. Any increase in idle it goes away. Let see if these guys can help. Same symptoms but mine is definitely is the trans at least that's what I thought. Take care.

When chasing unusual noises, I like to use a mechanic's stethoscope like this cheap one ($3.99) at Harbor Freight. I've also used a dowel about 1' long and placed it to my ear and moved it over the area. That's kinda the shade tree mechanic's stethoscope.

I bought one of those a while back when trying to troubleshoot a problem. I have since put my long screwdriver away. Didn't know what I was missing.
