Ford 871 Diesel injector pump build--how hard???

Hello all you tractor veterans. I am looking at purchasing an 871 Diesel that the owner says the injector pump needs to be re-built. I do not need this to run immediately as I have other units. I am considering taking on the rebuild. Am I getting in over my head. Any advice from those of you with the skills/tools necessary to do this. Thanks in advance for those of you who can provide me any insight.:thumbsup:

Injector pump rebuilding is not generally considered to be a DIY project. There are a couple guys that post here regularly that do pump work. Consider having one of them do the job for you.

Okie dokie, maybe one will reply and give me an idea of what money I would be looking at. Meanwhile I will keep trying to search to find someone on our site who does this work. Thanks a bunch for your advice.

There is a poster here goes by the handle the pumpguy.
If it is a Roosa Master they are one off the less difficult to work on and there are a lot of videos on them.

Injector pumps are finely machined parts with close tolerances. Some precision tools will be needed to measure the fit-up and assure factory tolerances are maintained. With my past experience rebuilding hydrocarbon and ammonia pumps and compressors I would probably tackle it. The bigger they are the easier, the small ones like we are discussing can be a challenge. The OP needs to evaluate his skills and tools needed. Some manufacturers put out excellent manuals that are a great help, especially tolerances to meet. Get it if you can, will saving scratching your head a lot.

Not knowing your skill level w/ mechanical things, its hard to tell if u can "handle it" or not..
I can send u a breakdown of the pump & u can decide..
Like I tell my customers when they ask, if I think they can do it.. Have u ever built a watch??
