Tractor had been working well, while working this spring with it she let out a BANG, BANG, and died. My thoughts were that it was the coil. Replaced that today and still nothing. Had the auto store check it and confirmed it was dead. The battery turns over the engine but no fire to the plugs. This is a 12 conversion.

What's the lightly hood that it could be the ignition switch itself, this tractor will turn over the engine with the switch off, so what if it's not sending the juice to the coil?

I would check to see it was getting power to the coil. If it is getting power then check the points and condenser. Also check to make sure the rotor is turning when the engine is cranking. I'm not sure on this tractor but I know on a automotive engine it's possible to shear the distributor gear pin. If you have an extra coil wire around you might try that also, I've had those give me fits before and not be letting it fire. Hope some of these thoughts help.

wow.. asking this instead of checking this?

just hotwire the darn coil!

no guessing or asking involved and then you know if you have power to the coil! :)

clean points and gap at .025

double check distribuitor rotor spins when cranking!
