Ford 8N/Unk lever

on a 8N tractor, just aquired, there is a lever, just behind the Hydraulic control lever, also a slotted (Filler ) just to the right of the lever, these are unknown to me, can you identify and explain the use ?

The uppright leveler change between position control or draft control. You may like it or not,this is a Ferguson system on a Ford. A little different to avoy trubble after the brake with Ferguson. Copy from 8N pages : "When it is straight up (vertical) the lift is in position control. The hydraulic lift quadrant lever will position the implement in relation to the quadrant lever position. When the small lever is down (horizontal) the lift is in draft control mode. Plowing is about the only time you use draft control. The lift will raise or lower the plow slightly to maintain a constant draft pressure which keeps the furrow at a uniform depth. "

Also, your hyd/transmission fluid dip stick gets caught on your pant leg and breaks off. To cure the problem, remove the bolts and turn it CCW one hole. No difference in level indicated.

i see a hundred series oil dipstick in there in place of the 8n dipstick.. it may read different;y than an N stick.

i'd pull the bottom bolt onthe palte..fill till oil appears there.. check stick.. then mark with a file.

also.. don't mess with the slotted plug.

oil fill thru the trans cover cap.
