Ford 8n
Hey all,

I知 new here as a registered member but have browsed the forums on and off for some time. Still not 100% certain this is the right place to post this question, but hoping those on here can help me.

I am in the process of planting a relatively large garden in my back pasture, which will be about 100 ft x 500 ft or so, and I致e been shopping around for a new toy to work it and keep it groomed. So far I致e narrowed in on two models, the Massey Ferguson GC 1705 and John Deere 1 series to upgrade from my current Ford 8n.

I知 partial to the Massey just because that痴 杜y brand which all of my big farm equipment is, however, my questions are:
-If anyone has experience, how will the new machines stack up to my Ford for power, weight, what they can handle, etc.?
-Any unbiased opinions on the GC1705 vs 1025R?

Thanks!

Those machines are very similar. Compared to your Ford, the 4 wheel drive is a big advantage. The disadvantage is the small tires. I think both those machines are limited Cat I instead of full Cat I 3 points. This will mean that your lift is limited and some implements may not work. This may not be an issue for you but check it out.

Keep in mind that your Ford 8n is actually one frame larger than those Sub-Compacts and 1000lb heavier.
It also has 27hp @ PTO(claimed).
If you want to have a machine with similar capabilites you might want to look into the MF 1734E and the JD 3032E.
The Massey is the most comparable of the two.
Depending on your budget you might want to also check the MF 2700E series, they are one step above your 8N.

The SCUT you listed are nice machines indeed but not as capable as the 8N.

Good luck.

For the garden, the 8n wins hands down. It is a garden tractor where the others are sub-compact utility tractors

Get a 2 bottom plow, a set of discs and a planter and enjoy the 8n

I've owned an 8n and a 1025r, for a garden the 8n wins
