I'm new to the forums but have learned a bunch reading everyone's post and am grateful for the resource of knowledge. I am looking at a 917H 88" Flail Mower and am looking on opinions of the value. It looks to be in pretty good shape compared to most of the ones I have seen. Thanks in advance!

I paid about 1200 for mine and it isn’t nearly as nice as that

Make an offer, a new JD 390 will be 9K+. Parts are available for it so no worries there.

He is asking $2200. I there isn稚 a lot of data for those units in really good condition. Most have been in battle for many years and show it.

He has obviously taken care of it and used it to mow correctly, otherwise the flail mower shroud nad rotor would be very dinged.
The scoop knives can be exchanged with side slicers if desired but you will need more hardware to mount more of them to have enough coverage to eliminate any rooster tails of unmown grass.
It is all up to you but as I said a new mower of that size from jd would be pushing 9K+.

Run it to make sure the rotor isn’t sprung before you buy. A flail mower with a bent rotor is worth $6.25 per cwt.

I like my Ford 917 its 74” version and I have a 36 PTO horsepower tractor.

I think a 88 917 in tall thick grass will be a load for a L4060, but if yours is a hydro it may be okay.

My 4060 is hydro. I知 planning on using it to mow our pastures that don稚 have tall grass. I致e previously used my Woods 72x brush bull but it leaves windrow and doesn稚 do a great job mulching the grass.

I would think you'll like it for clipping pastures.

Both New Holland and Flail Master have parts for the them.

That is a really nice looking 917.

I ran mine on a 32hp (25pto) L3200 ok. The L4060 ran it better for the brief time I retired it. I could have used more power, but liked the wide mower. I only paid $100 for my 7' 917, so you can guess the condition. It lasted 4 years all beat to **** & was still running. I keep it as a backup now.
