Jeff I put the chain hooks on like yours and it's working well enough. Now, on another concern, years ago I worked with a one point hitch mower and had some incidents of the drive shaft coming loose and flailing around just behind my back. I am new to the 3 pt. equipment and, having heard the neighbor guys talk about their mishaps with their 3 pt. augers, want to ask you guys just what happens when something breaks back there. I'm not too scared of getting caught in the rotating shaft because I stay away from that, it's the loose flopping shaft that worries me.
I saw one thing go wrong last week. The bar from under the tractor back wheel to the lower hitch pin on the mower came loose at the wheel and dropped into the ground, causing the back end of the mower to shoot straight up. Either the pin came out or I forgot to pin it. Nothing broke but that surely was hard on the U joints. Hope this might help somebody.
