Ford LGT 14 Glow Plugs

When I first got this garden tractor I could turn the key backward and the glow plug dash light would come on and preheat the cylinders. Now the glow plug dash light only comes on when the key is turned to the starting position and the engine is turning over. Does anyone know what this could be?

Usually the sign of a bad key switch.

Besides the possibility of a bad switch, it could also be a bad glow plug relay or the wiring to it - that is what comes on when you turn the key backwards. My particular tractor also has a glow plug timer associated with it that when you turn the key backwards it starts the timer that engages the relay for the predetermined amount of time, mine is about 15 or 20 seconds. I think alot of tractors also engage the glow plug relay while in the start position too, mine does, but the light doesn't always come on while in the start mode. It would be wise to try and find the wiring diagram for your tractor to see what components yours actually has.
