I have found a ford 1100 tractor for sale, and I came to thinking how good of a tractor it is. Now my main uses for this tractor would be snow plowing, loader work( dirt, mulch, snow),aerating and snowblowing. Would this be a good tractor for this? Are these tractors powerful enough to run a snowblower?
And is this the right form to post in?

This 1100 already has a front end loader on it? Im sure it will haul smaller loads just fine. Couldnt really say about the snowblower, Guess it depends on how big the blower is. There are guys here that use 1700's for snow blowing but they are a little bigger. Looks like the 1100 has a smaller 2cyl diesel than the 1700's, rated about 13hp. It appears to be a light duty unit, may not hold up to the work you intend for it. If it was cheap enough, I would buy it for summertime mowing. Good Luck, TB

I have owned a Ford 1210 for the last 23 years. It is close to the 1100 but has 16 hp. Among other things, I have a FEL with a 48 in bucket and a 48 in box blade. The loader will lift 700 lbs. For moving snow, I use a 60 in rear blade and it works great.

This tractor is great for its size which makes it very maneuverable without causing a lot of lawn damage. I have moved tons of dirt lately but the downside is it takes a lot longer than a bigger machine. Using a 4 ft bush hog in tight quarters is an advantage too. Pulling trailers around the yard so I don't have to use my truck is nice too.

The deal killer would be if it is only 2wd. These tractors are only lawnmowers unless the front wheels are helping. It makes a huge difference.

I've got a Ford 1100, it's only 2WD.

While it will run a 5 foot rear finishing mower through fairly thick grass without any problem, it doesn't weigh enough to do much of anything involving a ground-engaging implement (even with rear wheel weights). I've got a 4 foot box blade for example, I can do some work with it but the moment it hits a root with it, the tractor comes to a complete stop. The wheels will be spinning steadily but the tractor is just at a standstill...maybe if I exchange the turf tires for ags it'll help, but probably not much.

I concur with the previous post. This machine needs 4WD to be effective. With a front end loader, the rear tires will be even lighter, so unless it's just being used to pick up sawdust or loose dirt, I don't see it doing much. Which is a real pity, it's a nice tough little tractor.

Bill C,

Let me clarify something. I did not mean to say anything negative about your tractor.

You are right in that they are very tough machines. Seems almost bullet proof with proper maintenance and not abusing it.

I can always run the bush hog in 2wd but pushing snow around, loader work or pulling the box blade has to be done in 4wd. Sometimes it will pop out and it goes nowhere. Put it back in 4wd and it really pulls.

I hope you like your 1100 as much as I like mine. BTW, I do have the ags and they help.

Oh, no problem, I didn't read your post as bashing my tractor at all, I agree with everything you wrote. Nice little tractor but it can't get enough traction in 2WD

I just found out that the tractor does not have power steering which I think would be a big problem with loader work, and maybe it doesn't have enough power for a snowblower.

As far as the snowblower, I think it'd run it, depends on how big the snowblower is; for a claimed 13 hp, mine has more oomph mowing through tall grass than my "18 hp" riding mower.

Power steering would be nice, but it'd take a little bit of power from the engine...The other thing, aside from traction and lack of power steering, that makes mine a poor choice for a loader: the transmission is somewhat stiff and slow to shift on mine. Going forward and reverse, back and forth quickly, isn't what this transmission is made to do.

For loader work, I'd recommend a bigger tractor, 4wd, with power steering and a hydro transmission.
