I have a 2013 Ford Explorer. The original equipment tires, became noisy, tech said tire wear do to not rotating timely. They was right, I didn't rotate them every 5000 miles like they want. I had a flat, and tire was not repairable...so at 43,000 miles I elected to scrap them and put on Michlens...with every intent of rotating as they request.

Now...after one tire rotation and about 7800 miles on them I took it in and said....guess what...I'm starting to hear tire noise again. They checked alignment, all within spec, but they admitted they hear the noise, and said all four tires where worn more on the inside edge of the tires. Mentioned wearing like AWD pattern, and mine is FWD. Said come back a xx miles they will rotate and if noise worsens, they will replace all the tires.

Goggling Ford tire wear issues, came across this. Ford Motor Company - Premature tire wear, Review 65984 | Complaints Board.

WHAT is going on here. As high tech as everything is....having tire wear issues seems like a stupid problem.

Tire pressure plays more of a role in tire wear than anything else...if alignment is in check.

This test might or might not tell you anything. I bought a used cars with Michlens and they were very noisy. I rotated them but it didn't help. I read where they almost take a "set" and will stay noisy. The test for this was to run your hand in the direction of travel of the tire, and then the oppisite direction of the tires travel. You will often feel sharp edges when going one direction.

I've got a Durmax with 235000+ miles....I went thru 3 sets of Michlen LTX MS ties, between 65-70,000 miles out of every set. Not a problem one. SO vehicles/tires can do it.

The tire place, Quicklanes, is part of Ford here....they are well aware of tire pressure etc. It really bothers me as to why we should be fighting this type of problem with all the expertise they have. It did not take them long at all to determine the problem either, and admittedly the noise is 'slight',,,,but they hear it. They know what they are doing, but it seems the Ford alignment/caster settings are not conducive to tire wear, but to safety coming form the problems with rollovers some years back. But why they can't engineer it better is disturbing.

On my previous generation explorer, it was the panhard bars on the rear suspension. ( they control the toe in depending on the suspension travel )

I only knew mine were bad when the truck got loose on an icy road. On dry pavement they felt fine.

On your truck they look like item #4 in this diagram...

Brake wear seems to be a problem with Ford trucks also. My neighbor has to have new brakes and rotors about every 30K miles and Ford dealer says that is normal. My 2003 Olds Bravada has original brakes with 111K miles and is on its second set of Michelin tires with still good tread on them. I bought one Ford truck and had numerous issues with it including highly oxidized silver paint in less than 2 years which required repainting the whole truck (no warranty either), ignition coils were bad from the start and sporadically caused misfire, radiator stopped up with lime deposits at 20K miles (again not warranted even though it had 50K warranty on engine. The ignition coil could never be found by dealer so I replaced it on my own and never a problem again. Kind of spoiled me against Fords even though I drove company Ford trucks for over 20 years, I would never buy one for personal use again. I do have to admit that the interiors of Fords put Chevy to shame.
